Gathering technology

The time of Ivan-tea gathering depends on the leaves and inflorescences desired effect, but normally it takes place on June, when willow-herb is in blossom, July, when upper leaves are gathered and August, when roots can be harvested. It is necessary to gather Ivan-tea when the weather is good. There should be no rain or other precipitations and gathering should be held in the morning after the dew disappears. The trunk of plant is not damaged during the inflorescences and leaves gathering, because only the upper third part is cut and willow-herb can grow further. If these conditions are met next year there will be more leaves on the plant in comparison with the ones that were not cut.

The exact blossom period varies as it depends on the weather conditions and region climate. In the southern regions of Russia willow-herb is usually in bloom from the end of June to the second half of July. In the northern regions the blossom period starts from the middle of July and lasts till September.

Willow-herb that is meant to be Ivan-tea grows in dry and sunny meadows, as well as on the forest edges and the felled forest areas. You may have seen similar plants in wet and shaded places, but this is not the Ivan-tea, most probably it was marsh willow-herb that cannot be used to make tea.
